Comment: : I am going to talk about large amounts of homework. A large amount of homework is a problem because it causes stress. Stress can definitely lead to physical problems such as passing out. Having large amounts of homework can also cause kids to lose interest and motivation in school. Having large amounts of homework will also most likely have you staying up late at night. I brought this up because in the classroom, they will feel tired and will have a very hard time trying to stay awake and focus. Having less amounts of homework will allow children to concentrate more on the work that they are given in school. This is why having large amounts of homework is not a good thing.

Comment: Education is not at the highest point possible. There are thirty students to every one teacher. If there were more teachers or less students to each class then each student would get more attention. If each student got more attention they would not act out as much therefore not distracting other students in the class. One example is when the city of chicago was going to make it so there were 36 students per class instead of 30. When this happened everybody protested it so it did not happen.

Comment: I feel that Kenneth R. made very good points. But I do not think it will cause that much stress that you may or might have to pass out. also that its actually good to have a lot of homework but not too much homework.
Today I am talking to you about education and homework. Too Much homework can cause
stress for us student, our families, and teachers. We have all been up late and tired trying to figure out and finish our homework so we can get some sleep to go back to school in the morning. It causes stress on our minds and body.
Think about our day. Most of us wake up at about 6:30 am to get to school at 8:00 am,
so to get the recommended 10 hours of sleep for 10 year olds we need to be asleep by 8:30pm.
We get out of shcool at 3pm. So that leave us 5.5 hours to do everything we need to do to
get to bed and be refreshed in the morning to start all over. I dont know how you like to spend your first hour after school but I like to play in the playground and talk to my friends because we dont get to do that much in school. Then from 4-5,I like to change cloths and eat a snack. I start
to do some homework before dance or gymnastics but never get to finish it before its time to fo.
Im at dance or gymnastics for 1.5 hours. That makes it 6:30 when I get back home by then I am really ready for dinner. Done with dinner by 7:30. That leaves me one hour left before the recommended sleeping deadline. By now Im getting nervous and tired because I still need a bath and teeth brushing but My homework is not even done. So I take my bath, brush my teeth, get dressed and go back to my dining room table where I finish my homework. I am tired and crabby and can finish it up unless I have a problem I dont understand. Then I want to throw my book out the window and scream. My parents usually try to help me but I am really having a hard time
understanding them because all I want to do is lay down and cover up.
So I make a deal by now its like 930 or 10 and I ask if I can wake up earlier in the morning
to finish it up so I can think better, That is usually what I do except I am still tired in the morning and have alot to do to get ready for school.
I am sure you can see how this would affect the teachers and school too because when we get to school and are tired the teacher has a hard time teaching us and getting us to pay attention. We want to talk to our friends because we spent so much time working.
You see we really only have 5.5 hours after school before our day begins again.
we are in school longer than that. So instead we loose sleep to finish our work.
The teachers and school must know this because on standarized testing days they dont give us homework so we can do good on the tests and make the school scores higher.
Oh !. and some days our parents have another plan like going to the grocery store or mall becasue they have to buy something and we have to go with so that even makes our 5.5 hours even shorter.
Now imagine what life would be like if you had those 5.5 hours to enjoy being at home with your family, eating dinner, watching a movie , or going to walk your dog. Then when you went to bed and woke up school would be fun and exciting again. Why do you think we feel better in the summer not because we really hate school and love summer but because it means no stress just time to relax and do what we want to do.
Thank You,
Jessica M

I would like to. comment on education. Many poor people cannot get a good education. In fact, studies show that the greatest influence on how good of an education you get is whether you are poor or not. I think all people deserve a good education. In Chicago many people cannot afford this. This is my comment on education.

Comment: Nowadays education is bad in a lot of schools. One example is cps schools where student to teacher ratio is something along the lines of thirty to one. This is caused by a lot of schools shutting down and budget cuts. Also the teachers at cps don’t go through rigorous training like in Finland. “Professionals selected from the top 10 percent of the nation’s graduates to earn a required master’s degree in education. Many schools are small enough so that teachers know every student. If one method fails, teachers consult with colleagues to try something else. They seem to relish the challenges” Also student to teacher ratio there is about 14 to one half that of cps’s plus the test scores reflect this.

Comment:I agree with Kenneth R. because sometimes having a lot of homework can discourage you to learn. When teachers wonder why is a kid sleepy it only means two things 1, because they did not sleep (playing around) or 2, having too much work. I think it could also affect your learning because you could get depressed and worrying about not finishing it. Kids might finish their homework at night and be tired for the next day.

If you live in a worse neighborhood, you are in a lower tier. Most kids get 30min-1 hour of homework each day because they have so much or they don’t understand it or their parents don’t know how to help them. Comment: I would like to comment on the Post made by Mary S. I disagree that poor people get a worse education. The tier system prevents that from happening. If you live in a worse neighborhood, you are in a lower tier. If you are in a lower tier, you need a lower score to get into schools, so richer people who can afford to have tutors need a higher school.

Comment: i agree with Anna L. from Dever School, because there is a lot of homework that kids are receiving each day. It can cause stress. Most kids get 30min-1 hour of homework each day because they have so much or they don’t understand it or their parents don’t know how to help them. Students also get bored or distracted when doing homework. They have lower test scores because they get too much school work/homework. I learned from http://www.teenink.com/hot_topics/health/article/65431/Homework-Good-or-Bad-for-You/ that homework is good for you in some ways because it can teach kids good study habits, but too much of it cannot be good for you.

Comment: I agree with Kenneth R having stress can lead to people passing out and it can also have people not want to do work any more which is why there should be less homework.

Comment:i read Kennith R comment from Murray Language Academy and i agree it is bad that kids have to do lots of homework stress can also build up and make the kid later go into a state of depression later in life and depression is a bad condition that has a lot of side effects and can make your self esteem low and you will not be able to go to public or get good grades

Comment: I read Kenneth R’s comment from Murray Language Academy and i agree because too much homework means a lot of stress and a lot of stress means someone might go into depression. I had that happen to me once in 4th grade. Our teacher was giving us really hard and too much homework and i went into depression. I eventually got over it and went back to getting good grades. I also agree because kids can sometimes commit suicide when gone in depression.

Comment:i agree with Kenneth R. because homework does cause stress but without homework you wouldn't have extra help and we would not understand what we are learning in our schools, and when we would have test we would not understand what we were learning in our class.

Comment: Some schools have iPads to educate kids in a more fun way. Blackboards are replaced with iPads. Some kids have a problem with their backpacks. Students carry too much stuff in their backpacks. This will cause them back pain. This is why Some schools have iPads instead of blackboards.

Comment: I disagree with Mary S, Mary stated that many poor people can't get a good education which is not true because i know a few people who aren't on the rich side but still ended up coming to murray which is a good school.

I agree. Students stress when given too much homework. Students then have many thoughts going on like whether or not they will finish the homework on time or not. Stress can affect the student’s endocrine system. I then affects mental and physical health of the child.

Comment: I would like to reply to Kenneth R. Not to say I hate Homework, but I’m no fan, I agree with your comment of lots of homework. I can confess to getting migraines over such a topic and mainly do it for the grades. Homework can make me sometimes sick due to stress. Studies have proven this. Too much homework is annoying and shouldn’t be used as a punishment.

Comment: I am responding to Owen O’C from Murray and I agree that if there were more teachers students would get more attention. I know this because I have background knowledge, one time my teacher was helping a student and another student asked if he could get help but time was up. I think that some students learn more than others. I can't judge the principals more teachers means more money of payment.

Comment: I am reading this article about the ups and downs of college. It may not be worth it in the long run but it might too. I learned most people emerge from college with a $26,500 debt. Also half of these graduates go to jobs that require less than a 4 year college education. So is it worth it? This depends on the person.

Comment:I am responding to Kenneth R. from Murray Language Academy.I think that having homework is a good idea even though I don't love homework. Teachers should give kids homework to study so that the teachers can make sure the kids don't forget what they learned
in school. But I Don't think teachers should get carried away with the homework. Teachers should know how much homework is enough.

Comment:Having a lot of homework can stress a kid out. Sometimes kids don’t eat at all because they're so busy with their homework. Kids might sleep late and wake up late , feel tired or being late to school.

Comment: I would like to talk about some problems in education regarding Common Cores. As many have heard of this, it is debated that they don’t fully put a student of total academic achievement. Nbc learn argues, like a banana, these test standards include all of the needed nutrients, like the standards. They go on to say that like a banana, other things are needed for a balanced meal, like an education. Researchers agree that there needs to be more of full curriculum.

Comment:I agree with Bartos Z. because then you get really tired in the school when it is time to work and when you are tired you are not listening. Students are not learning so to the teachers out there, please give a certain amount of homework and keep educating your kids.
